I have been working and building up expertise in the area of (highly) automated driving for my whole professional life since graduating from Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in computer science with a focus on robotics and automation.

During this time, I have always been driven by Alan Kay’s famous words: “The best way to predict the future is to invent it.” Innovative technology that changes our way of living is what drives me. This includes Automated Driving as well as other areas of robotics such as Air Taxis, Medical Robotics etc.

Working on automated driving has for me been a way to design and invent the future of mobility and improve our future. Therefore my goal has always been to bring SAE L4 systems into series production and on the road – making it usable for everybody, making our roads safer and driving more comfortable and relaxed.

From my experience in different companies and with very different roles and positions at premium OEMs, Tier1s and Tier2s, I have a broad overview on the AD and ADAS industry and needs. I collected huge experience on what works well and what does not work well in many different areas such as product strategy and business models, development and engineering processes (Automotive Spice, Safety, Agile…), algorithms for situation interpretation, sensor data fusion and other parts of the system as well as architecture.

Combining (Large Scale) Agile working models with automotive grade development processes to handle the complexity of AD software projects has been a huge focus of my work in the last years as classical project management techniques have proven to be too slow and restrictive to handle modern automotive software projects. Including aspects of Functional Safety and especially Safety of the intended Functionality (SOTIF) is on the other hand absolutely necessary to develop safe series development products.

Also developing system architectures for ADAS and AD while enabling a way to provide L0 to L4 systems on the same architecture and maximize reuse of newly developed or existing components is one of my focus topics. I have been dealing with huge amounts of legacy and how to integrate them into an AD system as well as build up ADAS and AD development from scratch.
